I had a big problem, should I buy 4 or 8 MP.

We were unaware of these new 12/16MP models.

We are speaking to our Hikvision UK contact to get more information on when these will be available in the UK and which model will be available.

There will probably be more information available in the New Year.

16MP with a 1/1.8" sensor, I'm surprised at that. I noticed that the new dark fighter turret (DS-2DC23x6G3) keeps the 1/1.8" for 8MP but for the 4MP models it's only 1/3".

Need an NVR to handle it / them of course and also an 8k monitor to view the higher resolution 16mp

The low light performance will be the trade off for the higher resolution. It's a 1/1.8" sensor and f1.6 aperture. A couple of other things that jump out from the product data:

• Set to 16MP it's limited to 12.5 FPS
• Set to 12MP it's limited to 20 FPS
• If you want 25 FPS, you'll need to drop it the resolution to 8MP
• The max bitrate is the same 16Mbps as always.

Of course I'm sure if they do become available in the UK, I'll jump in and get one to try....

16Mbps is bottleneck for 12 and 16MP

As well sensor size

I have put my 8MP camera to a bitrate test on highest quality

VBR showed at some points 40 mbits of traffic.

So if FPS doesnt bother you and night image. Regardless if you dont have 8K monitor to view the resolution, atleast on daytime you will have a good digital zoom detailed picture compared to 8MP.
It all comes down to what you actually need.

Done! - These 12 and 16MP models seem to be available now in the UK. I've just got one of the 16MP models:

DS-2CD23166G3-I2UY-SL (16MP turret with 2 way audio)

I'm not sure when I'll get chance to install it at mine as I'm not sure which camera I'll replace (most of the positions aren't the best). A couple of things I've noticed:

• Viewing angles - from the spec sheet, the horizontal viewing angles are a fair amount narrower than their counterpart 4 and 8 MP models on that 1/1.8" sensor. They are 94 and 73 degrees respectively fro the 2.8mm/4mm as opposed to 111 and 95 on the 4MP ColorVu G3. Perhaps it's down to a different aspect ratio - not sure.
• As mentioned before they have a similar minimum illumination figure to the 8MP ColorVu G2H at 0.0008 lux. However this model uses F1.6 aperture rather than F1.0. Hopefully it'll be sharper at closer distances.
• As I mentioned above, the spec sheet shows a max bit rate of 16Mbps. The web interface of the camera however permits setting the max bitrate up to 24Mbps:

• Edit: Once the camera is added to an NVR, the max bitrate tops out at 16Mbps, regardless of whether configuration is carried using the NVR/Virtual Host or directly on the camera.

The camera runs on G9 platform firmware. Latest firmware on Hik-Partner Pro is 5.8.3_260204, however my camera came on a later build - 5.8.3_260320.

I've had a quick glance through the menus. Exposure settings are similar to the ColorVu G3 models (H13 and H13U platform) using auto exposure with minimum and maximum exposure times configurable. A couple of things I've seen in the menus that differ from the ColorVu G3 platform:

• Location. Latitude and Longitude can be set on the camera. That location info can be enabled for overlay in display options.
• Audio Exception Detection is available in Smart Events. Audio Loss, Sudden Increase, Sudden Decrease can be used.
• General Settings - Mounting Height can be set (default to 4.5m)
• General Settings - Rather than just Device Number, Camera Number and Camera Information fields have been added.

I've installed the camera now replacing a 2347G3. On power up the picture was atrocious and I thought I'd got a lemon....until I realised this camera (despite being fixed lens) has a focus control.

It's bright and sunny currently but I'm still quite surprised after having a look at some playback. With the camera mounted at approx 2 metres, if I freeze playback I can read the number plate of a car passing at 25 - 30 mph - the distance from camera to plate is 20 metres (66 feet)

I’ve enabled/disabled AcuSeek, deleted/re-added the camera, unloaded the AcuSeek/AcuSearch engine, rebooted NVR and reloaded engine all to no avail.

This are indeed bad news. Have you checked if perhaps this model have acusearch disabled by default?
To my understanding, acuseek will work on camera which have acusearch option enabled in its settings.

@trempa92 - yes, it's on by default though as it's a newer camera the switch is marked 'AcuSeek' rather than 'AcuSearch' in that menu. Smart event metadata is also turned on.

I opened a case with Hikvision support this morning giving them all model numbers, firmware versions etc along with what I'd done to try and rectify it. I'll report back here if I get any useful response from them (unlikely!)

The quoted viewing angles on the datasheet are somewhat deceptive. I guess the figures given are for when the camera is set at 16MP; setting the camera to 8MP just crops the border of the image giving a much narrower view (and requiring the camera to be repositioned)

@trempa92 - as soon as I've dropped the resolution to 8MP, AcuSeek results started coming through immediately. It seems that it doesn't work when set to 16MP. Not sure whether that is a bug, a camera limitation or a NVR engine limitation. But still......not good
