Another camera position query

Hi there,

im just wondering if I can put the question out to the forum - I’m pretty sure of where I’m going to position my cameras however before I go ahead with the purchase just wanted to cross check.

Overall I think I’m going with ColorVu G2 4mp turrets but open to feedback based on positioning. I *might* consider one or two LED floodlights, but id rather not unless absolutely necessary.

For the front of the house I think two cameras, possibly one 2.8 and one 4mm at the points shown. Front area is approx 8m x 8m.

For the side passage, it’s quite narrow but I was thinking of a 4mm at the point shown looking forward. Any thoughts?

For the back. I was thinking of a 2.8mm at the lower point overlooking the garden and another 4mm at the higher point. The garden is 8m x 12m so not a huge area to cover. Question - will Acusense ignore the smoke coming from the boiler or will that cause problems? Obviously boiler would only be on an hour or two a day.

Thank you!

Hi @Pete_2356

Combining 2.8mm and 4mm at the front is a good idea, the positions you currently have are ok but the sloping roof may block the FoV of the camera on the right-hand corner. We would probably suggest you would get a clear FoV by mounting the camera under that porch roof. (maybe mounted to the small area of brick to the right of the door)

A 4mm ColorVu should be ok down the side of the property, but it would be advised to mount on a junction or wall bracket to push the camera out from the wall and give the best angle to look along the side of the house.

At the rear of the house, the green position is fine but for the lower position we would recommend bringing it to the left so it is not so close to that pipe, smoke & steam shouldn't trigger the AcuSense Smart Events but the less of it that is visible in the cameras FoV the lower the chances of false triggers are.

That’s great Dan, thanks for getting back to me.

I hadn’t really considered under the porch as I thought it was too low, but the more I think about it, it could be a good idea. I’ll check what the field of views are like before fixing.

I was planning on using junction boxes anyways to hold the cabling but I see your point on the side - would a bullet suit a little better than a turret for a little extra offset from the wall at the side?

good point on the back ones, I could also invert the positions of the green and red too if that makes sense.

do you know is there any sign of 8MP turrets coming in the Colorvu? I’m secretly hoping they’ll come out before I pull the trigger but then again would 8MP be complete overkill for a residential application?

Hi @Pete_2356

A bullet camera on a junction box would be another option but I don't think this would give you any better viewing angle than a turret on a junction box.

We have yet to hear anything about 8MP ColorVu Turrets yet, global tech brands are all suffering major production delays due to shortages of key components and the resources that make those components so this will likely delay new product launches. It is likely if the 8MP ColorVu Turrets do get released this will be delayed to Q4 2021/Q1 2022.

All the areas you've described above are less than 15m so 4MP cameras should be fine to get a good level of detail over those distances.
