I had a camera feed which start coming and going intermittently. When I took it down, the connection was fine (no water damage) but then I noticed that something (I assume a mouse) had got into the camera bracket and nibbled the actual camera cable! On further inspection I can't see any damage to any of the cores. Only to the outer sheath and the foil shielding.
I was surprised this was enough to cause an intermittent problem with the feed - can others with more experience confirm that a shielding tear like this would be enough to cause problems? This is within a camera bracket and not next to any other cables (power or otherwise). Now it's sat plugged in in the office it seems to be working fine.
Could this be "repaired" e.g. with some tin foil and tape or something? Or am I better off ditching it? Or I could cut the cable and use a CAT5 socket/plug to repair it...
