Hi
I have 15 year old co-axial equipment and would like to upgrade cameras and if required NVR too (home use). Could someone advise me on some good equipment and adapters too as I understand some are not as good as others to future proof the system please.

Regards

Hi @Covdad

If you want to upgrade to an IP NVR and keep some/all of your analog COAX cameras you would need to install Network Encoders between the cameras and the NVR to encode the analog video signal into a network data signal that the NVR can recognise.

In our experience, good quality Encoders can cost as much as a new IP Network camera and the encoding process can also massively reduce the video quality from the cameras, so often the most cost-effective and future-proof solution is to just replace the analog cameras with new IP cameras.

Thanks Dan

Yeah assumed that might be the case.
If I put those encoders in it would still mean dragging cable through to my 4 corners on my eaves to power them,or keep them together centrally and take the ethernet cable to the corners so I may as well just do the latter and get new gear.

you may be able to use the existing coax cable as a pull through to get the ethernet cable through the wall / roof to the new camera.

Hi David

Yeah I was hoping so too but we’ve had all new plastic Facias etc a few years ago and until I get a ladder out to look I’ve no idea how much play I have.
