Connecting cameras via Ethernet Switch

I will be grateful for any guidance on the following.

I have a NVR (DS-7608NI-K2/8P) with 4 cameras connected directly to the POE ports. The NVR is a long way from my broadband router (Sky) and they are connected by a CAT6 cable. That cable terminates in a non POE ethernet switch that feeds the network to the NVR and another non POE ethernet switch in an adjacent room that, in turn, supports the network for various devices. This part of the house is too far from the broadband router for WiFi to be reliable.

There is need to add 2 more cameras in a location where it would be difficult, though not impossible, to run cables directly to the NVR. Is it possible to connect the new cameras to a POE Ethernet switch on the network and somehow connect to the PVR over the wired network? I've seen some related information here but my reading suggests that the connection may involve running a dedicated cable from the Switch to the NVR's LAN port and that would be problematic. In summary I would like to connect 2 new camera via a POE switch while retaining the current network access for the NVR and other devices.

Thanks
Hikory

Hi @Hikory

What you describe is absolutely possible.

As long as the PoE switch that has the 2 new cameras is on the same local network/router as the NVR, those cameras can be assigned local network IP addresses and manually added to the NVR.

See this guide if you need help with manually adding cameras to the NVR:

This worked more easily than I anticipated. I already had a number of ethernet switches working on my network, though none had POE capability. I started off attaching the new cameras to the NVR directly, plug and play, using patch leads. I then found I could remove them and attach them to any ethernet port in the walls or on the switches and they connected back to the NVR without need to change any settings, providing of course I gave them a power supply (12 volt in my case). I haven't yet decided on the final positioning for the cameras and will probably upgrade 2 of the switches to POE, but it seems I have a number of good options. Thanks again for the guidance.
