Good evening,

Sorry for this thread as it’s rather long winded.

First of all, I got taken in buy the social media CCTV offers you see, I bought 3 “ 4mp IP cognitio “ cctv cameras, these seemed great at first…

Then I came across some issues where I actually needed footage, first one - I car hit my van parked outside my house, the refresh rate of these was poor - so I couldn’t really identify much at a distance of around 20M

Next, I needed to try and identify someone else - again, it was a struggle but I managed it.

Then, after around 1.5 years these gave up one by one. Just stopped working, cognitio were useless when it came to help.

I’ve been doing some research…what a mine field this stuff is! I’ve learned about 4mm lense etc and wide angles, still not fully on par with this.

So I’ve come to ask for help, i don’t really have a budget, more of a “ I want the stuff that will work “ as the £600 I spent on the first set, was almost a waste.

I’m aware many 8mp cameras use poor sensors of some sort - I still don’t fully understand this, I just know that MP is nothing without a good sensor right? What is a “ sensor “ how can I tell what is a good sensor?

In terms of what id like, I might be asking for the impossible.

1 - colour at night

2 - built in mic ( I found this really useful when I needed to identify last time )

3 - ideally IP

4 - motion detection, not the alarm and flashing light stuff, just “ human detection “ on playback

5 - good quality footage, I will be needing these to get a good view to around 20/30m so would a 4mm lense be too much?

As said, I want to buy this once now, im
In Worcestershire midlands so im
Happy to have someone on here recommending wise.

Thanks all!

1. Color at night

You still need to satisfy minimum light needed for color mode. Models can go far bellow to 0.0005 lux needed for color mode. But usually that dark with color will push shutter speed as slow as 1/25. Which on fast motion will look like a smudge.

Currently there is no Camera that can create fast motion at dark in color mode.

2. Built-in mic

There are alot of models covering this point

3. Thank god

4. Most new cameras work with human/vehicle detection nowdays. So i believe this became new standard anyway.

5. good quality footage, I will be needing these to get a good view to around 20/30m so would a 4mm lense be too much?

even 4mm wont be able to get details at 30m. 2,8 and 4mm are usually used for general overview. If you go with varifocal you might get what you want, but you lose FOV.

It all depends on scene.

Seeing everything with 1 camera usually means seeing nothing in detail.

I understand the budget is low. But you do understand usually quality and price work together.

Conclusion:

If you will go with 4mm which could be pretty ok up to 15-20m max i would go with DS-2CD2347G2H-LIU(or wait new colorvu 3.0 models coming out pretty soon)

Sensor 1/1.8 is perfectly fine for 4MP , not so much for 8MP. You would need 1/1.2 or larger for 8MP camera. Only model that comes with 1/1.2 8MP i saw for a decent price in hikvision is DS-2CD2387G2-L

NVR i suppose depending on how many cameras, go with DS-7604NXI-K1(4P-optional if you dont want switch)
