Hikvision Unmanaged Switches DS-3E0526P-E vs DS-3E0518P-E?

Hi,

I'm looking to add a switch to my set up and consolidate into one switch with additional capacity for future needs.

I'm using 8 ports at the moment anyway but can route a few more devices through either one of these options

Narrowed it down to these 2 gigabit options. They appear to be of the same family one being 24 port and the other the 16 port version.

The questions I have is how noisy are they? Do they both have the same fan setups internally?

Is it ok to go unmanaged or should I be considering a managed switch? My thinking is if I have a range of PTZ and static devices with varying POE draws it might be good/better for me to be able to assign POE budgets by port.

Is this do-able in the unmanaged switches or is it all Plug and Play?

I have read the Data spec sheets for both and aside from the max power ratings I could not see the Power draw at standby and low level activity. There will be 4 Static cameras and one PTZ attached all POE+(AT)

24 Port

16 Port

For the most part they will be left on and doing their job and once set up very little messing about afterwards so watts consumption would be good to know so I can make the best choice.

The Cat6 runs to the cameras range from 5m up to around 20m. It's all very within capacity for either model.

Many thanks

Any thoughts?

Also any idea how noisy theses switches are? Do the fans run very loud on them ?

Thanks

Hi @ekkostar

We have minimal experience with these larger switches, but below are the answers we can give to the questions you've asked:

PoE switches are unlikely to get anywhere near as warm as NVRs, so I wouldn't expect the PoE switch fans to be as noisy as NVR fans.

For a system of your size, a managed switch probably has minimal advantage (especially considering they are usually more expensive). As long as the total power requirement of all your cameras does not exceed the switch's PoE budget, you shouldn't need to manage anything.

Unmanaged PoE switches are just dumb network hardware. They provide power to the devices and connect them to your local network, they won't offer any wider controls/settings.

This information is on the datasheets, see below:

Many thanks for that Dan.

The 16 port and above Hikvision switches do look identical to other business class network switches that are available and they do appear to have 2 fans on board.

Network switches I understand can certainly be louder than a NVR and the concern with the 2 fans here is these might require an enclosed unit. The sound can be very loud indeed.

Equally they need the active cooling due to the increased POE output they are dealing with.

It would be good to hear from anyone who has a Hikvision switch similar to these ones so that they can help to confirm.

Kind regards
