I’m in the UK and just moved my my inlaws into a bungalow near us and found an active HIK DVR still powered and recording in the loft. There are two external cameras on the building which connect via BNC connectors. Theres also a ethernet cable which is run down to the previous occupiers router (no internet yet).

I’ve connected a display via HDMI and can see the gui and the two camera are working and appear to be still recording.

The model number is iDS-7204HUHU-K1/4S(C).

As soon as I try to do anything i get welcome the popup with the username and password. Tried the default of admin and 1234 but failed. The forgot password option gives the Retrieve your password popup.

Verify by HK connect option says to bind first.

Verify by email say to set reserved email.

Verify by questions asks for father mother and teacher names.

I've connected my laptop and found the web interface for the unit and its asking for username and password.

The Estate agent contacted the relation of the previous owner (who died) and they have no knowledge of the system or any passwords.

How do I go about resetting the system so we can use it thanks.

In order to reset the admin password yourself you would need these answers from the person that set them.

Hikision won't usually assist an end user. Any local installer that uses Hikvision will be able to do a password reset (at a cost). They will do this by exporting an xml file from the unit, sending it to their supplier who will in turn send them back a corresponding file to import that will allow a new password to be set.

If I reflash the firmware will it put it back to default user account. Tried looking on the website for firmware but couldn't determine from the part number above which one I'd need.

No - the previous admin password will remain throughout the update. You couldn't update the firmware without accessing the DVR with the admin password. If you had access you would simply default the DVR via the menu. There's no workaround for this - you'll need to involve an installer or Hikvision to carry out the reset procedure as described.

Hi JB1970
Are you a Hik installer if I was to extract the XML file would you be able to send to HIK on my behalf for a set fee of course.

I am but that's not something I would do. For me to submit a case to Hik directly I've either got to be on the same local network or have the device already included in my installer app. Usually when I need to do this reset for a non customer I'm doing it by forwarding the xml to my supplier. It would be a bit cheeky of me to be involving them in something I'm charging for.

Just contact a CCTV installer local to you and ask them what they would charge you to carry out the password reset. It'll likely be the cost of a callout.
