Is more channel better?

I assume nvr with more channel is more powerful than that with less channel? If so, should I buy a 16 or 32 channel nvr for upto 8 cams for my house? My house will definitely use no more than 8 in forseeable future.

It depends which manufacturer you are looking at, but the 16 channel will normally be more than powerful enough, but probably still overkill for 8 cameras.

The best way to check is to look for the "incoming bandwidth" budget for the NVR against the maximum bandwidth used for each camera, and make sure the total is within that budget - you'll be able to find all of this information in their datasheets.
