No audio on playback but live view is fine

I have an NVR that is set to record video and audio from a ColorVu 4MP IP Cam

When viewing from the iPhone HikConnect app I can see and hear audio live

When I Playback from the iPhone HikConnect app I can see but not hear audio, same goes for downloading the recordings from the NVR onto a PC and playing it back from the HikVision video player and also VLC

I am wondering what else I can try? Maybe I need to put the IP camera onto a PoE switch and log into and enable the audio? But that doesn't seem right as I can hear live Audio just fine?

Are all of your settings for the camera are exactly as shown in steps 3 and 4 this guide?
