Remote configuration?

Hello, for various reasons I cannot use the Hikvision cloud to manage my NVR, so I was advised to configure Port Fordwarding on port 8000 (better if changing the port to a different one) of my router, in order to reach it.
Everything OK, it works, I see my cameras!!
But if I click on the wheel to see the remote configuration it doesn't work, it crashes.

Question: How can I get remote configuration to work to remotely configure the device parameters such as basic information, time settings, recording schedule, etc?
Do i have to open another TCP port?
Where can i specify this port?

Thanks in advance.
Best regards.

The shortish answer is that there's an array of models and firmware versions with only some supporting remote configuration via P2P (which is what Hik-Connect uses when no port forwarding is configured). First make sure your Hik-Connect app is on the latest version either from the iOS App Store or (if you use an Android device) appstore.hikvision.com

It's likely that to get Remote Configuration working, you'll need to do three things:

1 - Change your http port in the NVR first. Much like the advice you've already received regarding the server port, it's best to change it to something else (otherwise anyone keying your IP address into a web browser will hit the login page). Opening any ports is a security risk but you have to balance security vs convenience. To make the port forwarding easier I'll usually use consecutive ports - for instance 40000 http, 40001 RTSP (as you won't need to do multiple rules if you use a range)

2 - In the router forward your http port to the internal address of your NVR (your NVR should have a static address on your network or a reserved DHCP address, otherwise if it should change, your port forwarding rule(s) will stop working)

3 - In the Hik-Connect app click the 3 dot menu to the right of your connection > Settings > Configure DDNS > Set 'Port Mapping' to Manual, match the server and http ports to whatever you've used, set username to admin and password to your NVR's admin password > click the Save icon in the top right of the page.

Your connection will now use Hik-Connect DDNS in favour of P2P and the 'Remote Configuration' should now work.
