I'm trying to wire a manual trigger from an alarm system to a Hikvision camera. Are any of the PoE pairs unused and can be borrowed to create a trigger wire? I'm unable to run another wire

any cable / plugs / sockets used in a non standard way should be marked as such. There could be conflicts with some PoE devices always check.

in a cat5 cable the blue pair and brown pair are usually not used, I've used these for dry contacts etc. I split these pairs out into another socket.

You can do the same for cat6 and higher, bear in mind this could affect the characteristics of the cable and reduce the overall data rate.

rj45 pins
1, 2 data / poe
3, data / poe
4, 5 free, usually telephony analog phone line. can be poe. check
6 data / poe
7, 8 free can be poe. check

What are you trying to achieve? There could be another way. Do you have a Hik DVR or NVR or is this a standalone camera?
