"Video encoding complexity" setting

I can't find much (any) information about what this IPC-D640-Z dome cam setting does so any clues welcome.

It's outlined in red on the attached screenshot and the options offered are "medium" or "better".

I assumed that the video encoding complexity was determined by the other settings such as image size, fps, bitrate, etc so can't figure out what this one adds.

I asked Hikvision tech support about this setting and got this reply:

"Under the same bitrate, higher video encoding complexity gives higher image quality. We usually select “medium” for this option."

Hope that clears things up!
 
Thank you, Kyle. I wish it did - but I have a lot to learn. I think Hikvision dropped it from later cameras so I guess not many people needed it…

Do all these image quality settings apply universally to both live view and recordings?
 
No problem! Yes you're probably right there, it's not a setting we tend to see anymore.

I believe they do indeed apply to both :)
