I have a situation where a previous owner of the NVR won't release the device which is binded/registered to their Hik account.

I have physical access and admin password - if I do an unbind can I then register the device to another Hik account or is it possible for the previous owner to refuse the unbind or do anything awkward to then stop it being re-registered and re-used for platform access on another account?

I have read Dans post on unbinding via SADP so I understand that (and also see an option to unbind on the NVR native interface). Not sure if there is any difference doing it via SADP vs on the NVR itself...

You should be able to unbind with the admin password. Teh only time of had an issue is with an older DVR with version 3 firmware.

I think I have answered my own about unbind - Although I don't use Hik-Connect I registered an account, added one of my NVRs to account. Then on NVR itself clicked the "Unbind" button. NVR was just removed from the account without any notification or request on the account. So all good, I can do the actual NVR in question now...
