Hi guys just wondering if anyone had any experience of this.

Im in the UK and the weather at the time was just normal Spring weather, 12 to 14 degrees.

hikvision ds-2cd2347g2-lsu/sl about 4 year old, the glass covering the lens has just randomly cracked.
This obviously allows moisture in and the footage is now pointless.

Nothing hit the camera and its at the rear of the house between ground and first floor so out of the way.

I watched the footage and can see it going from crystal clear to blurry with no object hitting it.

Can I remove the glass and rebond it with another piece of glass (if so anyone any links for a replacement) or do I just need to replace the whole camera?

Thanks.

That's annoying. I once managed to tap one with a screwdriver lightly and it broke all too easily. I've not replaced one myself, it was an older models and I just ebayed it but I see no reason why you couldnt replace it as you've suggested.

It does make me wonder how these turrets are given IK10 impact resistance. IK10 means the enclosure should be able to withstand the impact from a 5KG mass dropped from 40cm. 'Enclosure' clearly doesn't include the glass which can't resist the head butt of an aggressive moth!

Hi RoundSquare, did you ever manage to replace the glass lens cover on your HikVision camera?

I ask as two of my five HikVision DS-2CD2347G2 cameras have suffered the same issue as yours; the glass lens cover has cracked and moisture is now getting inti the camera lens, resulting in a blurry image. It is very weather dependant and tends to disappear in fine, dry weather, but then re-appears when it is wet!

Mine are also only 4 years old. There seems to be a theme here! Very disappointed these cameras have failed so quickly, I expected better.

Here's my post, but would be interested to know if you managed to resolve the issue, or did you end up either living with it, or replacing the camera? If you replaced it, what did you replace it with? I'm reluctant to spend more money on HikVision products, so would possibly look for an alternative brand, that hopefully is better quality and/or better made, but it would need to work with my HikVision recorder!

Hi milleniumaire,

No I never managed to resolve my issue.
I read your original post and like you, watched the footage around from when it started to cloud over and there is definitely no strike on the camera.
Ai suggests that tightening the camera too much to the base could possibly be a reason but it was definitely not tightened to much
I have 3 of these cameras two 4mm and this cracked one at 2.8mm.
I gave up searching for replacement glass to be honest.
I brought it into the house and it dried up but still has some haze inside but a lot better than what it was.
I've replaced it with 2CD2387G3-LIS2UY/SL

Thanks for the update.
I've reached out to Hikvision UK technical support to see what they say about the possibility of replacing the glass lens cover.
I confess, if I have to replace the camera I would be tempted to look at an alternative make rather than giving more money to Hikvision, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to find something that is compatible with my Hikvision recorder!
The turret on these cameras can be manually adjusted, so I can't see how screwing it too tightly to a compatible base would cause the glass to break, especially after 4 years!

I didn't bother with Hikvision Technical support as I guessed they would just ignore it given the length of time it had been installed.
If you hear anything interesting back from them can you give me a shout.
Thanks

I got a response from Hikvision Technical support asking me to provide a lot of information, such as serial numbers, seller etc., i.e. all those things you would need for a warranty claim. They also suggested I should contact the seller in the first instance! I explained it is out of warranty and the seller isn't interested and I simply want to understand if spare parts can be purchased.

I'm expecting them to fob me off with "it's out of warranty - we can't help", which would be a shame in this throwaway society we now seem to live in.

Thanks I'll maybe contact them just to add to the history, although because they weren't installed by an approved installer, I would imagine they will just ignore it.

Just received this reply from Hikvision:

Dear Customer,
--

Please be aware that HIKVISION branded products purchased from any third party other than our Authorised Partners may be counterfeit, used, defective, or simply not designed for usage in your country. Because we have no means to determine whether these products (if sold by those unauthorised) are used, refurbished, counterfeited, stolen, or otherwise compromised, Hikvision cannot offer a warranty to products sold by parties other than our Authorised Partners, which would in turn affect your access to our full support and services. Parties other than our Authorised Partners would not have the necessary capability to provide appropriate system design, installation, support, maintenance and alike. As reasons stated, we may not be able to help you if you have a problem with an unauthorised dealer or online seller.

Before the purchase of any HIKVISION branded products, we recommend all our installers and system integrators contact the supplier for their Authorised Partner ID and verify the supplier is a Hikvision Authorised Distributor or Hikvision Authorised Wholesaler. This will help ensure the purchased HIKVISION branded products are distributed through official authorised channels.

Any claims or issues regarding your warranty, should be taken up with your point of purchase, as the warranty is not dealt with the Hikvision Directly.
I didn't expect much, but this is even less than I expected. Looks like a cut and paste reply, so they don't even have the decency to spend 5 minutes putting an email together to tell me they won't supply spare parts and couldn't be bothered to answer my question about if the glass lens cover was replaceable.

I told them the cameras had been purchased from CCTV Direct UK, which as far as I could tell is an authorised Hikvision supplier, so no idea why they are suggesting the camera's I have are counterfeits! Just an excuse to avoid helping me.

Very disappointing response from them and I won't be purchasing further Hikvision products, so will look at an alternative brand now.

It looks like I'm out of luck getting any information from Hikvision or even CCTV Direct UK, which is very disappointing. Just realised I also contacted CCTV Direct UK back in February, but don't appear to have received a response from them, and my latest email has also gone unanswered. Hikvision are now ignoring me.

As the weather is reasonably dry, I've not noticed the images from the two failed cameras being blurry recently, but I'm sure it will happen again at some time. When it does I'm inclined to try using superglue in on the glass crack in the hope it will seal it and prevent moisture getting underneath the lens. The cracks are on the corners of the glass lens covers and so don't appear to be directly affecting the image. It's a long shot, but worth a try, since I'm unable to repair these cameras.
