Wiring a motion detection on a DS-7208HUHI-K2/P DVR

Before we ge too deeply into this, can I correct the first line of your reply, “Not at all - you shouldn't need either for a conventional alarm.” it is not a conventional alarm. It is tailored made, and triggered by the timer showed a few massages back.

That is why I asked/suggested a RS485 interface or transformer, something like the attached of e-bay, that should not breake the bank.

Ok - it's not something I've used. As has been stated earlier the alarm outputs simply connect or disconnect from ground with no voltage - IE dry contacts. If your timer needs to be triggered using a voltage, you'll need an external power supply or battery. Wire the positive connection from the power supply directly to the timer positive input, wire the negative connection from the power supply to G on the DVR and wire output 1 on the DVR to the negative input on the timer. The timer has a permanent connection to positive - the negative is switched through the DVR output. For that you will want the DVR output normally open as opposed to closed. As the timer is low voltage and will require minimal current, there still should be no need for a relay for isolation.
