Firmware M Series 5.04.020_241106 Released - Issues/Avoid

some issues with non linear adjustment of some image settings (like massive jumps from say setting 54 to 55/100
That's possibly normal; image settings are 1-100 but you'll find some map to just 10 adjustments.

Wow, you'd think they'd implement it a bit better than randomly having massive changes throughout the 0-100 scale. Like have it step up once every 10 steps over the 100 range (if there's only 10 adjustment steps available.)

That’s how it is - one step every block of 10 for some settings.

Some further information. I got back to Hikvision support after this latest update to mention that some of the issues remained. As reported:

"3 -Local UI Playback 'Skip Normal Video’ Issue. Steps to reproduce - In the local UI start Playback, click the gear wheel in the lower right corner and change the Play Strategy to Skip Normal Video and Save. Now close Playback on the toolbar at the top of the screen and re-open it; video will play continuously. Clicking the gear wheel and going back into the Play Strategy settings you'll see that Skip Normal Video has turned itself back off, despite being previously ‘saved’. This setting has always stuck once set. We shouldn’t have to go back into the Play Strategy settings every single time we open playback."

"This is a bit of a pain as it’s necessary to leave the playback tab open permanently (it affects both normal and event playback); as soon as it’s closed any preferences saved are lost/revert to off.

Additionally the Human/Vehicle filter in the lower left corner is enabled by default; I can’t see why that has been changed? If ’skip normal video’ is selected, as soon as you select a camera to play back obviously it’s going jump to the first event rather than commencing normal playback at 00:00.

Smart Search and VCA search do not work on G5 platform cameras (no results returned during search). I’ll report this in a separate e mail as it’s not NVR specific; it affects G5 cameras and doesn’t work on any NVR once the G5 camera firmware is updated beyond 5.7.15_240411."

The response is that it's not a bug.

No that's not what was happening to me then. You'd be adjusting from 0-99 and certain steps you'd literally go from the what appeared to be the lowest to the highest setting in one numerical step. And it was random (all over the 0-99 scale) where the max and min were and everything in between. I think it was WDR or HLC?

I reported the issues to UK support on Nov 22nd; UK Support confirmed the issues and said they'd pass to HQ on Nov 29th. We'll have to see whether version 5.04.050 that Kyle mentioned two days ago will resolve it; that is slated for release 'after Christmas'

The new M series firmware is available on the US website:

I'm going to try loading it now...

@JB1970 maybe start a new thread for this release? I don't want to start the thread because I don't seem to be able to tag it as "FIRMWARE" like you guys can:

loaded fine...

First thing I'm noticing is that the system no longer requires me to input the "lock pattern" after a reboot (as it used to, I've always had the NVR "Lock Screen Password" disabled but after a reboot I had to enter the "lock pattern" to exit full screen).

Mouse scroll direction for frame-by-frame playback is still reversed.

On the NVR "Storage Management/Storage Schedule/Audio Recording"... all 16 channels changed to enabled... pretty sure I had them disabled before the firmware update... turned them all off. (Not to be confused with "Storage Management/Storage Schedule/Video Recording" where I do have some cameras enabled to "Record Audio" under advanced settings.)

The "Human" and "Vehicle" filters still default to on when you select a camera for playback.

Do you still need to enable that hidden option to skip footage that doesn't have vehicles/ people detected each time you enter Playback? Also, are the fast forward and rewind buttons visible?

"Skip normal video" (now?) stays enabled if you leave playback and go back into playback (I'm not sure if that changed or not) ... but it defaults to disabled after a reboot :(

Also, are the fast forward and rewind buttons visible?

The "Speed up" and "Speed down" buttons are (still?) only visible when human and vehicle filters are off.

Also, there is still no "Others" filter.

I promise this is the last time I bring this up since it seems like only @rorton and I care...

This started with V5... I liked the way the menu bars timed out in the V4 live view... kept hoping they would change it back, but I guess it's a new feature, not a bug... oh well :)

I hate that too. And the audio being muted on Liveview as soon as the screen lock cuts in. I now have to leave mine unlocked or I don't get audio on the HDMI output.

It was previously staying selected so long as the Playback tab was left open in the upper toolbar. It was deselected if you close that tab and re open it.

Apparently it was 5.04.050 that was going to include a fix enabling intercoms to be added. It’ll be interesting to know if that’s sorted.
